Foundation Principal's Message
Every student has the potential to do well. Too often in schools, when students meet an academic challenge, they can dodge around it by taking easy options or simply opting out. Unfortunately, that closes doors and reinforces the students' feelings of mediocrity. My view has always been that, in the right environment, all students can meet academic challenges and succeed. That is largely why I founded this College. Our curriculum is a challenge – all students must take the two most difficult maths subjects for example – but all our students cruise through. The effect on their results (and hence their possible careers) is one thing but equally important is the effect on their self esteem and confidence. I also believe in treating senior students like adults. Not only does this also help their confidence but it also breeds responsibility which is often undeveloped in an over-disciplined school setting. Of course it also prepares students for the freedoms of university that can daunt and defeat students who used to a highly structured school. So my aim is to create adult, self-confident, responsible, successful learners – all are welcome.
