Parents

The College appreciates that parents are not only closely involved in the education process but are also our clients. The College has to balance this appreciation with its policy of developing responsibility and self-reliance among its students.

The students are repeatedly told that their success is their responsibility: it is a fundamental of the College's approach to education. Thus academic results, minor disciplinary matters, school organization (such as exams and excursions), careers information and other matters related to the learning process are communicated directly to the students (as they would be at university). Although we report in writing to parents after each semester, we do not hold parent-teacher evenings or directly inform parents of their children's progress. We strongly encourage parents and students to develop adult communication styles: talk to each other.

We encourage parents to support the College's ‘hands-off' approach. Of course they should discuss matters with their children but it should not involve too much criticism, reprimands or other behaviours more appropriate to younger children.

If parents are concerned about anything, they are encouraged to contact the College. Such contacts will be welcomed.
